JMB has learned that Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent will defend her UBF World female super bantamweight title against Christina Ruiz in a slated 10-round main event April 3rd, at the Twin River Event Center in Rhode Island.
Vincent (13-0, 1ko) won the vacant UBF super bantamweight belt when she defeated Jackie Trivilino in a very competitive and feisty contest last November. This will be her second 10-round affair of her career and she seems to relish this opportunity.
“I’m working on a lot of new things and this will be my best fight to date, even better then the Trivilino war,” she said exclusively to Journeymen Boxing Friday.
Vincent turned pro in 2012 and is currently the second-ranked super bantamweight in the U.S. and seventh in the world in a very talented and stacked division.
Ruiz (7-7-3, 4ko’s) is coming off two very tough and grueling losses. The 29-year-old native of San Antonio Texas, dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Tyrieshia Douglas for the vacant WIBA and UBF female bantamweight titles last November. Douglas, who is set to take on Chantel Cordova March 20th for the vacant UBF flyweight title, dominated Ruiz in their bout.
Ruiz suffered a six-round draw against Crystal Hoy last April then followed that up by losing an eight-round UBF female bantamweight eliminator match two months later against Jennifer Han. She has dropped four of her last six bouts.
However, she has fought top-tier opponents throughout the course of her career, including Amanda Serrano, Celina Salazar twice, and Alicia Ashley as well as Kaliesha West.
