BEHIND THE CHAMPIONS

Biography.

Bobby Hitz, born Robert Joseph Hitz, is a Chicago-based boxing promoter, matchmaker and former professional heavyweight. Through Hitz Boxing Promotions, he has helped provide a platform for professional fighters across Chicagoland and the Midwest, bringing the experience of a former competitor to his work outside the ring.

Hitz competed professionally from 1985 to 1989. BoxRec records his career at 15 wins, 5 losses and no draws, with 10 victories by knockout. His opposition included former world heavyweight champion George Foreman and heavyweight contender Pierre Coetzer. Before turning professional, he won the 1983 Chicago Golden Gloves super heavyweight open division title.

After his fighting career, Hitz developed a lasting presence in boxing promotion. Hitz Boxing traces its history to 1991, with its early Ramada Rumble shows in Rosemont and later events across the Chicago area. Its Fight Night at the Horseshoe series began in Hammond, Indiana, in 2009. His promotional work has combined opportunities for local prospects with appearances by established contenders and champions.

As of October 14, 2026, the supplied BoxRec records list 181 events in his promoter history and 57 in his matchmaker history. These are role-specific event listings rather than a combined count of unique shows; the matchmaker listing includes a scheduled October 31, 2026, event. His work across both roles reflects decades of involvement in organizing professional boxing.

Hitz’s UBF championship history includes promoting the rematch between Donatas Bondorovas and “King” David Thomas on February 15, 2013, at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana. Headlining Fight Night at the Horseshoe, Bondorovas defeated Thomas by technical knockout at 2:09 of the second round to capture the UBF All Americas Middleweight Championship.

The Bondorovas–Thomas rematch forms part of Hitz’s connection to UBF championship boxing, alongside his broader career supporting professional boxing in Chicago and the surrounding region.
