UBF RANKING GOVERNANCE

Official Methodology

Independent Top 20 rankings cover 17 men’s and 17 women’s divisions. Pound-for-pound lists support ten independently evaluated positions per gender. Research candidates and source rankings never establish an official UBF position.

Evaluate opponent quality at the time of each bout, verified outcomes, performance, record context, recent activity, championship merit, divisional standing and direct head-to-head results. Regional achievements receive credit for competitive merit and opposition, using the same criteria for UBF and non-UBF fighters. Affiliated lists and overlapping computerized ratings are cross-references and must not be counted as independent accomplishments.

Automatic UBF championship placement

Current UBF titleGuaranteed position
International / Inter-ContinentalWithin Top 25
All Americas / European / Asia-PacificWithin Top 50

The UBF owner has authorized automatic inclusion of every current champion in these title categories, regardless of calculated merit score or inactivity. Former champions do not receive the guarantee. A fighter with an earned position better than the guarantee keeps that position. Where a fighter holds more than one qualifying title, the stronger Top 25 guarantee applies once; the fighter is not duplicated.

The public page has one UBF World Rankings list. The first twenty positions retain the published merit assessments. Additional championship placements use available slots from position 25 for International / Inter-Continental champions and from position 50 for regional champions, working toward lower position numbers when more than one champion qualifies. These reserved placements establish inclusion within the promised range; they do not assert that every intervening position has been researched. They are labelled Automatic placement rather than given a fictional merit score. A title placement establishes recognition and does not automatically designate a mandatory challenger.

The current month is projected from the current championship registry whenever the rankings are loaded. Adding a qualifying current titleholder to that registry automatically adds the placement; changing the reign to past removes the automatic guarantee. The title’s recorded gender and division determine the placement. Earlier monthly merit snapshots remain preserved. Missing boxer records and bout dates are labelled pending verification without blocking the championship guarantee.

Monthly verification and approval

Before publication, verify name, country, record and last completed bout through a BoxRec professional profile or an official sanctioning-body record. Link the exact report page when a verified BoxRec profile URL is unavailable; do not invent profile IDs. Score each category within its limit. Verification occurs in the ranking month. Records and completed bouts are checked against primary sources. When only a bout month is published, the table explicitly shows month precision rather than inventing a day. Activity scores are 15 for a completed bout within 90 days, 12 within 180 days, 8 within 270 days, 4 within 365 days and zero beyond 365 days; month-only dates use the first day conservatively. Inactivity reduces independent merit rather than automatically erasing a competitive record. Automatic championship placements apply regardless of inactivity while the title remains current. Positions may remain unassigned. The latest published coverage and complete Top 20 lists are reported by division on the Rankings page. Missing positions are not fabricated, and the remaining research candidates stay private until evaluated. UBF World Champions appear outside numbered independent challengers. The UBF owner has authorized autonomous calculations and publication; individual fighter approval is not required. Positions are calculated by the seven-category total, with ties resolved by head-to-head score, opposition quality and recent performance. Official source positions inform research and divisional standing; they are never converted directly into UBF placements. Every publication adds an immutable monthly snapshot; corrections add a new revision without erasing the original. Previous position is derived from the prior approved month.

October 2026 completion calculation

The seven remaining men’s lists and sixteen women’s lists use the official October IBO statistical reports as a factual candidate dataset. The earlier ten complete men’s lists and both pound-for-pound lists retain their documented assessments. This inaugural statistical calculation is an evidence-based starting point; it is not a claim that every individual opponent or commission result was separately reviewed. The reports’ country codes identify nationality; monthly report records are dated October 1, with later verified research records explicitly dated October 9.

Opposition points use the report’s qualifying-opponent wins (QW), losses (QL) and draws (QD): minimum of 25 and 25 × (1 − exp(−QW/4)) + 0.6 × min(3, QL) + 0.3 × min(1, QD). This is an aggregate opposition proxy, not the quality of each opponent at fight time. Recent form receives up to 20 points: win = 1, draw = 0.5, loss = 0, oldest to newest with weights 1 through 6. To temper very short careers, add 1.5 neutral outcome points to the weighted numerator and three to the total weight before multiplying by 20. Record points are the minimum of 15 and 9 × wins / total bouts + 6 × (1 − exp(−wins/15)). Activity uses the published intervals above. Championship experience receives 10 for a listed current major/IBO champion, 7 for a world-title history annotation, 4 for another listed title annotation, or 0 when absent; annotations do not establish a current title designation. Standing receives 10 for a listed champion, otherwise 10 × (101 − source rank) / 100. A source rank therefore contributes at most 10% of the total and never automatically becomes a UBF position. Existing documented individual opponent-quality and championship assessments supplement the aggregate proxy by retaining the higher supported category score. Earlier head-to-head assessment points are retained where available; otherwise that category receives zero. The assessment text and evidence links identify these supplements.

Each component is rounded to one decimal place before summing. Ties use documented head-to-head credit, opposition score, recent-form score, then alphabetical order. Each division is assessed against its complete available active candidate pool, not just the first twenty source names. The listed last-six form is a completed-bout sequence, not six bouts within a fixed recent time window. Later verified bout dates update activity; other aggregates remain the monthly report baseline unless separately researched. Fighters are assigned to one divisional list using their earlier verified UBF research classification where available. Reigning UBF world champions are excluded from numbered challengers. UBF championship guarantees are applied after the merit calculation as clearly marked additional placements.

Women’s cruiserweight has one previously verified candidate. The October IBO women’s report does not contain a separate cruiserweight division, so UBF leaves the remaining positions open pending divisional evidence rather than duplicating light heavyweights or heavyweights.

Research references

Use official rankings, commission results and historical UBF records for evidence; no source list is an automatic placement.

Commission result links and UBF title-history evidence must be added to each fighter’s evaluation. This directory identifies research sources; it does not claim their current lists have been verified.

Corrections and appeals

Email [email protected] with fighter name, division, month, disputed entry and supporting evidence. UBF reviews the evidence before publishing a revision; submitting an appeal does not change a ranking automatically.
